Use Their Model Of The World

Learn From Einstein’s Mistake

I was reading a pretty good financial article the other night.

It was by this guy who’d written a few bestselling books. He’s got connections inside the Federal Reserve, and he’s been in the business for many years.

So he knows what he’s talking about.

Anyhow, he said anything is easy to understand when you have the right model.

But with the wrong model, you’ll never “get it.”

Of course, politicians and the economists who work for them choose models to help their careers, rather than accurately describe what’s going.

Which is why government run economies usually don’t do so well.

One my favorite stories from physics is the discovery of Quantum Mechanics.

A bunch of ultra-smart dudes (Einstein, Bohr, Plank, etc) were trying to out exactly how this “event” was happening.

They kept trying different mathematical models, and kept getting it wrong. Even Einstein.

But unlike government goofs who are in love with their own ideas, as soon as they found out their model was wrong, they had no problems trashing it and coming up with a new one.

We ALL share the same type of misconception.

We become so in love with our own models, even when they aren’t working, we’ll do anything to FORCE them to be right.

That’s the heart of “cognitive dissonance.” We literally can’t see things that prove us wrong. Our monkey brains won’t let us. It thinks our egos can’t take it.

But if you’re trying to do ANYTHING that involves the participation of other people, you’ll ONLY be able to find people that are congruent with your own model.

This is where “confirmation bias” comes from. We only hang out with those who agree with us. Only watch TV shows that we agree with. Only read news sources that share our opinions of the world.

But if you can ditch that thinking, you’ll be able to build relationships with A LOT MORE people.

If you’re trying to sell something, you’ll make a lot more money.

If you’re trying to find a romantic partner, you’ll have a lot more options.

Now this is much deeper than simply trying to “see another person’s point of view.” Or changing your politics just to make a sale.

This is about listening to other people describe THEIR OWN model of the world.

And when you do that, you’ll be able to present YOUR IDEAS in terms of THEIR MODEL.

That way, it will sound much, much more congruent to them.

You’ll get more agreement, more dates, more sales more of whatever else you want that other people have.

Why Einstein Was Wrong

Model Of The World

That’s An Interesting Model

One of the reasons I like quantum physics so much is the process by which it was discovered.

You had a bunch of the smartest guys in the world, (Einstein, Bohr, Plank, etc.,) sitting around this “black body.”

No, it wasn’t that! Just a hunk of stuff. They would heat it up, and then measure the energy as it cooled down.

They kept trying to describe what was happening through various “models” or ideas about what they THOUGHT was happening.

And guess what? They were WRONG way more often than they were right.

In fact, they were right only ONCE. But once was enough. Einstein was wrong. Neils Bohr was wrong. But some young dude, Max Plank, was right. (That’s right kids, the dude who “discovered” quantum mechanics was in his twenties).

The reason this was so cool was they DIDN’T try and force the world to fit into their idea.

They didn’t fall in love with their own theory and then try and FORCE the world to “behave properly.”

They were SMART ENOUGH to know it’s ridiculous to keep believing in something when there’s evidence right in front of you proving it’s NOT TRUE.

Compare that to people today. Everybody’s got their own theory. And when they find that “reality” doesn’t match with their pet “theory” (which they likely copied from somebody else) then they get mad at reality. It doesn’t even occur to them to change their “model of the world.”

Because models are just that.

Models. Guesses. Approximations. Estimates.

And if YOUR model isn’t working very well, maybe you should CHANGE your model.

How do you do that?

Just play some mental “what if.”

What if those “other people” who are the opposite side are more right than I give them credit for?

But this requires you to ask YOURSELF a very important question:

What’s more important, being RIGHT, or finding an accurate model so you can more easily GET WHAT YOU WANT?

Because it’s pretty tough to do both.

That’s why Kundalini is so powerful.

It could be completely mystical and esoteric.

It could be based on metaphysics.

It could be a metaphorical description of biological processes that are TOO COMPLICATED for the human mind to understand.

But the concept has been around for a LONG TIME.

Even if it’s “just” a system for reducing stress, so you can live healthier, live longer, make better decisions, get better relationships, develop better communication, it’s still pretty valuable.

What Do You See

What Do You See

There’s a lot of ways to see the world.

Some people see the world as a dangerous place, filled with deceit and treachery.

Other people see the world filled with happiness and puppy dogs.

Still others see the world filled with necessary evil to get what they need to survive.

To be sure, it all depends on what society you live in, what the government is like and what the economy is like.

There have been plenty of horrific regimes that made it impossible to see the world as anything other than pain and suffering.

On the other hand, even in the worst situations, like in Nazi concentration camps, people managed to look on the bright side of life.

To be sure, not all of us have super human levels of optimism.

But we CAN change our filters, and see the world in different ways.

Next time you’re out in public, try a few filters on, just to see what it’s like.

Like maybe see everybody as a potential customer of some sort. Imagine you had a magic box that could produce any product, and start to wonder what everybody wants or needs.

Or see everybody as having some kind of specialized skill. Imagine you are a world class “fixer” and you are always on the lookout for new team members. Try and guess what everybody’s secret skill is as they walk by.

Or imagine you are a world class chef and you have a magic kitchen. Try and guess what everybody’s favorite dish is.

Or imagine that you are a world class grief counselor. As you see people walking by, imagine what each individuals biggest memory or source of emotional pain is.

The truth is, that to a large extent, the world is VERY accommodating. If you look for problems, you’ll find them. If you look for opportunities, you’ll find them too.

If you look for dream lovers, you’ll find them. If you look for people that will hurt you, unfortunately you’ll find them too.

Take some time to think about what you want. And the kind of people that will help you get it.

Then get out there, and look for them. Find them. And get what you want.

How do you do that?

Here’s How:
